Immersion into Algeria’s Insurance Sector
September 7, 2026
For a startup, understanding the realities of an industry is essential to identifying market needs, developing relevant solutions, and creating meaningful collaboration opportunities with established players.
This was the focus of Day 3 of the Learning & Immersion Days, organized as part of the 8th edition of the Algeria Startup Challenge 2026, with a deep dive into Algeria’s insurance sector.
The session opened with an intervention by Mr. Youcef BENMICIA, President of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UAR) and CEO of the National Insurance Company (SAA).
He shared his perspective on innovation in the insurance industry, while highlighting the potential for collaboration between startups and insurance companies.
His intervention also provided entrepreneurs with a better understanding of the framework governing general insurance agents and brokers, as well as their role within the insurance ecosystem.
The immersion continued with direct discussions between the startups and representatives from CASH Assurances and the National Insurance Company (SAA).
These exchanges gave entrepreneurs the opportunity to better understand the challenges, needs, and real-world issues facing the insurance industry, while exploring how innovation and new technologies could contribute to addressing them.
The session brought together several industry representatives and experts, including Mr. Abdelhakim LAKHMECHE, Head of Strategic Planning and Studies, and Ms. Tassadit NEHAB, Director of Automotive Risks at CASH Assurances; Ms. Sabrine ABOU SAMAAN, Head of Studies at UAR; as well as Ms. Yahiaoui Nessrine, Studies Officer, Ms. Amina MELLAH, Deputy Director for Organization and Monitoring of Insurance Intermediaries, and Mr. Abdeslam BERRABIA, Director of Administrative Network and Partnership Management at SAA.
Beyond discovering the sector, the day was above all about bringing startups closer to real market players.
For entrepreneurs, these interactions provided a valuable opportunity to test their ideas against real industry challenges, better understand the issues faced by professionals, and explore potential avenues for collaboration.
For insurance companies, the session offered an opportunity to discover innovative solutions and engage with a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of bringing fresh perspectives to the sector’s transformation.
Through direct discussions, insights, and conversations around the sector’s needs, the third day enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics and challenges shaping Algeria’s insurance industry.
This immersion reflects the broader ambition of the Learning & Immersion Days: building bridges between startups and established economic players, encouraging knowledge sharing, and turning market understanding into concrete opportunities.
A sincere thank you to UAR, CASH Assurances, and SAA for their warm welcome, availability, and the quality of the exchanges with our entrepreneurs.
Stay tuned for the upcoming Learning & Immersion Days sessions!
